Pope Francis
Our church mourns the passing of Pope Francis. As speculation begins regarding his successor, it is crucial, for us, to take time for reflection and remembrance. During these days of mourning, let us recall his teachings on mercy and love towards all of God's people and his call to serve those around us with the heart and hands of Christ.
We commend Pope Francis's soul to God in the days ahead. The Holy Father’s funeral will be held at 10:00 A.M. (Rome time) and aired on EWTN at 3:00 A.M. local time on Saturday, April 26th. During the octave of Easter (this week) the liturgical calendar does not allow for a memorial Mass to be offered. Therefore, Bishop Raica will offer Mass for the soul of Pope Francis, in the context of the Second Sunday of Easter – Divine Mercy Sunday – at the Cathedral of Saint Paul at 5:00 P.M. on Saturday, April 26th. All are welcome to attend. Additionally, I will do the same at the 8:30 A.M. Mass at Our Lady of Sorrows on Sunday, April 27th. He will be remembered at all our Masses over the next week. No doubt many of you are getting questions from your non-Catholic friends about all of this. I have provided some links to information that may prove helpful.
