In our gospel today Jesus reminds us that true greatness is found in our service to one another. In a world that often tells us, “It is all about me,” he asks us to look beyond those things and see the deeper reality of giving of ourselves to one another.
The readings today lead us into our annual Diocesan Catholic Charities Appeal. This appeal is an opportunity to look to the needs of others as we seek to live our faith. Your gift to the Appeal is a positive response to God’s love for you and a true reflection of your generosity in supporting the vital programs and services offered by our Diocese. The history of this parish is one that bespeaks of tremendous generosity to those less fortunate and in need of our assistance.
Some of the many people who benefit from your generosity are the nine Centers of Concern, the five Catholic Family Services locations, College Campus Ministry, the Apostolate to those with Special Needs, the Vocations Office, Long Term Care for Priests, and other ministries. Funds from the Appeal help everyone — regardless of race, age, or religious affiliation. Our Diocese continues to grow, and with the blessings of that growth come increased needs. Your assistance is vital in meeting those needs.
Pledge cards were mailed by the Diocese to each household. If you did not receive one, you may pick one up at the church, the parish office or go online to www.catholiccharitiesbhm.org/give-now. You may also scan the QR code in the bulletin or text “Giving” to (205) 883-0023. All we need at this time is your PLEDGE — no payments are necessary now. (Our parish goal is $660,000.00. The overall goal of the diocese is $4,900,000.00.) You can make monthly payments to Catholic Charities beginning in January 2025 and concluding in December 2025. Your contribution to Catholic Charities is TAX-DEDUCTIBLE.
Please bring your pledge card to Mass on SATURDAY-SUNDAY, SEPTEMBER 28-29, and place it in the second collection so that we may make our offering to God at Mass together as a parish family. Your pledge card may also be brought or mailed to the parish office. May the Lord, who is never outdone in generosity, continue to be with us all on our journey of faith together. As our readings today remind us, true disciples of Jesus are those who extend His love to others – those who put their faith into action.
